<title>Report Calls for Redesigning School Finance System to Link Resources and Results</title>
	<link>http://www.centerforcsri.org/index.php?option=com_content&amp;task=view&amp;id=616&amp;Itemid=2</link>
<description> Facing the Future: Financing Productive Schools is the final report on the School Finance Redesign Project from the Center on Reinventing Public Education at the University of Washington. The report is the synthesis of a six-year applied research study of the U.S. K-12 public school finance system. The authors found the school finance system&amp;rsquo;s expenditures were not tied to results, or to students' needs, and that the current system works against the efficient use of resources to promote student learning. The report offers state officials five suggestions for redesigning a school finance system that links resources and results.

<title>Increase Seen in Homework Expectations and Reports of Elementary School Students</title>
	<link>http://www.centerforcsri.org/index.php?option=com_content&amp;task=view&amp;id=614&amp;Itemid=2</link>
<description>This issue brief from the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) at the U.S. Department of Education, Expectations and Reports of Homework for Public School Students in the First, Third, and Fifth Grades , looks at children&amp;rsquo;s homework experiences as they progress through the elementary grades. Using data from the Early Childhood Longitudinal Study, Kindergarten Class of 1998-99 (ECLS-K), the study follows a cohort of students using follow up data from 2000, 2002, and 2004. The authors found that reading and mathematics homework increased as the students progressed through the elementary grades, and the number of parents who reported their children doing homework 5 or more times a week also increased. A difference in the amount of time spent on homework was evident in schools with higher percentages of minority students and in reports from the parents of minority students.

<title>Disability Content in Teacher Preparedness Programs in Southeastern States Examined</title>
	<link>http://www.centerforcsri.org/index.php?option=com_content&amp;task=view&amp;id=612&amp;Itemid=2</link>
<description>The Regional Educational Laboratory (REL) Southeast has released a report as part of the Issues &amp; Answers series, Preparing Teachers in the Southeast Region to Work with Students with Disabilities , examines elementary school teachers preparedness to work with students with disabilities. The study randomly selected 36 colleges and universities in the six states in the Southeast region and collected course materials, including syllabi, and conducted interviews with department chairs. The researchers found that disability is frequently associated with diversity in core courses and mission statements. Disability content is integrated into teacher preparation programs by embedding disability content in required courses, with half of the schools investigated also incorporating disability content in fieldwork experiences.
