The Catalog of School Reform Models, 2002
The Catalog of School Reform Models was designed to help educators find an external model that meets the needs of their school. It provides descriptions of whole-school models that were judged eligible for inclusion based on stated criteria. The last review of models was conducted in 2005, and no additional reviews are planned. The catalog is currently archived.

CSRQ Center Report on Elementary School CSR Models, 2006
This American Institutes for Research (AIR) report was produced by AIR’s Comprehensive School Reform Quality (CSRQ) Center in 2005 and was updated in 2006. It uses scientific criteria to evaluate the quality and effectiveness of 22 widely adopted comprehensive elementary school reform models.

CSRQ Center Report on Middle and High School Models, 2006
In November 2006 the Comprehensive School Reform Quality (CSRQ) Center of the American Institutes for Research (AIR) revised and updated this review of the effectiveness and quality of 18 widely used middle and high school reform models. Models are rated on their effect on student achievement and other outcomes, evidence of links between research and the model design, evidence of positive impact on family and community involvement and evidence of services and support to schools.

Evaluating Comprehensive School Reform Models at Scale: Focus on Implementation, 2006
The authors of this RAND report developed a unique method of quantitatively measuring the level of school reform implementation. They measured the actual implementation of four different models in a large number of schools, and compared the results to a corresponding set of non-model schools.

Emerging Evidence on Improving High School Student Achievement and Graduation Rates: The Effects of Four Popular Improvement Programs, 2006
This issue brief from the National High School Center draws on findings from four studies by MDRC, a nonpartisan, nonprofit research firm. The brief identifies challenges that high schools face when seeking to improve student outcomes. Four high school reform models were evaluated: Career Academies, First Things First, Project Graduation Really Achieves Dreams (GRAD), and Talent Development.

Achievement for Latinos through Academic Success (ALAS) Program, 2006
The What Works Clearinghouse (WWC) has reviewed an intervention program designed to address student, school, family, and community factors which affect the drop-out rate of Latino students. The Achievement for Latinos through Academic Success (ALAS) program was originally devised for use in a Los Angeles junior high school and used strategies such as attendance monitoring, instruction in problem-solving skills, parent training, regular feedback, and social events to increase student retention and progression.

Meeting Five Critical Challenges of High School Reform Lessons from Research on Three Reform Models, 2006
This is the first in a series of reports from MDRC which summarize and synthesize lessons learned from large-scale evaluations of high school reform initiatives. The report begins with a section discussing three reform initiatives evaluated by MDRC: Career Academies, First Things First, and Talent Development. The following five chapters present research-based lessons from across these evaluations about five major challenges associated with low-performing high schools: (1) creating a personalized and orderly learning environment, (2) assisting students who enter high school with poor academic skills, (3) improving instructional content and practice, (4) preparing students for the world beyond high school, and (5) stimulating change in overstressed high schools.
