Reallocating Resources for School Improvement - Conclusion

Allocating resources is a difficult task, and most schools have little experience in doing it. Before starting this process, school leaders should examine the context in which they work, commit to principles to guide their work, and allay the fears of staff and community. This guide provides school leaders with a variety of tools they can utilize as they engage in the challenging work of resource reallocation.

School improvement is a complex process and reallocating resources is only one important part of that process. As a result, Learning Point Associates has created a variety of products and services to assist school leaders with a range of site-specific needs. The resources listed here are available to support your school improvement goals. Learning Point Associates can also work with your school to design professional development activities that will help you make fact-based decisions that produce sustained school improvement.

The challenges facing schools in the twenty-first century are not easily solved. Learning Point Associates stands ready to help schools find innovative solutions that will use time and resources effectively to improve the quality of education for all of our children.

The ideas presented in this booklet are the result of resource allocation work done by the author from 1995–2002 in the Cincinnati Public Schools. A special thank you is extended to Dr. Karen Hawley Miles, Education Management Group, and Dr. Allan Odden, University of Wisconsin-Madison for the help they provided to the district during this time.
