| Reallocating Resources for School Improvement - Guiding Principles for Allocating Resources |
Planning Forms
Staff (Form 7B)
Review your School Improvement Plan (Form 5), then review the positions listed in the first column from Form 1. Study them carefully and decide if any of them can be redirected to become any of the new positions with only a few changes in responsibilities. What are the consequences of making those changes in the position responsibilities? List positions considered for elimination and the consequences of eliminating each one.
As you review your student learning goals as well as current staffing and scheduling allocation, you may want to consider the following questions:
-
What positions must be added to implement your school improvement plan?
-
What positions do you need to add to support any of the action plans in your school improvement plan? For example, you may want to reduce class size at
K–3. If so, how many more teachers does that require?
-
Which teachers must have common planning time in order to implement your action plans?
-
How much common planning time do they need on a weekly basis? (Ideally, teachers need blocks of ninety minutes of common planning time. Less time than that is usually not useful.)
-
How many staff and what kind of staff is needed to provide common planning time?
-
What is the cost of adding these positions?
