Planning Forms
Scheduling (Form 7C)
Description:
Look at your master schedule. Can specials (physical education, art, music teachers) be rearranged to provide common planning time for core academic teachers? Are other nonload-bearing teachers available to provide time for common planning for core academic teachers?
Is teacher time available before or after school? Look at the contracted teacher day versus the student day. For example, a teacher day may be seven hours inclusive of lunch, and a student’s day may be 5.5 hours. If so, how is that additional hour (given 30 minutes for lunch) used? Teachers need a minimum of 15 minutes before class starts just to prepare the room, etc. However, that would leave 45 minutes at the end of the day which may be added to a 45 minute preparation period to give 90 minutes of planning time. You may have to hire paraprofessionals to walk students to the bus or do playground duty or other non-instructional tasks to free teachers for planning.
