Subject Index Help - School Reform and Improvement Database
The Center has provided a subject term list to help you find items of greater relevance to your search topic. These education-related terms are assigned to database records to indicate the main topics of each publication. This is different from using your own keywords or search topics because keyword searching will match words found in many fields of the database record and keywords may or may not fully represent the subject of an article or document.

Using the Center Database advanced search screen, you can select Subject Index terms and search for them in database records while using the default "Keywords" search pull down menu option:

You can narrow your search even further and find the subject terms only when they appear in the database record field used for subject terms by selecting Subject Index terms and then selecting the "Subjects" search pull down menu option:

To access the Subject Index term list, go to the advanced search screen and click on the Subject Index button next to the search box that looks like this:
Subject Index

When you click on a term, the Subject Index window will close, you will be returned to the search form, and the subject will be automatically entered into the search box. You can select up to three terms for a combined search by repeating the process and clicking on the next Subject Index button. Be sure to specify if you wish to combine the subject terms using AND/OR/NOT using the appropriate pull down menus on the left.

This window will close automatically in 120 seconds.
